A remembrance of the life of LeRoy Miller will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 am from the United Methodist Church in Churdan with the Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Burial will be made in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. Military honors were conducted by the Camp Dodge Honor Guard.
LeRoy E. Miller, the son of Harold G. and Darlene (Carrick) Miller, was born Aug. 17, 1942, in Bayard. LeRoy died peacefully on Dec. 5, 2018, at his rural home southwest of Churdan, surrounded by his family. He lived his life to the age of 76 years, 3 months and 18 days.
LeRoy grew up on a farm east of Churdan and graduated from Churdan High School in 1960. During and after high school, LeRoy helped his dad with the family farm. In June of 1963, LeRoy joined the Army National Guard and served for six years.
On June 10, 1967, LeRoy was united in marriage to Marlene Batz at the Presbyterian Church in Auburn. Four children were born to this union. After their marriage, LeRoy and Marlene moved to Lake City where LeRoy worked as a mechanic at the Lake City Implement and also attended college at the Fort Dodge Community College for two years.
They then moved to Churdan and started farming on their own. Farming was LeRoy’s life and he seldom strayed too far from the farm as there was always something that needed to be done. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and hardly missed a Hawkeye football or basketball game on TV. He also enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic games. LeRoy retired in 2015. LeRoy was a lifelong member of the Churdan United Methodist Church.
LeRoy will be dearly remembered by his wife of 50 years Marlene; children and their spouses Mark (Jennifer) Miller of Churdan, Jodi (Chad) Van Bell of Waukee, Jeff (Becki) Miller of Waukee and David (Anna) Miller of Churdan; nine grandchildren; his brother Duane Miller of Churdan; and his sisters Deloris (Elmer) St. Clair of Des Moines and Diane (Kevin) Howe of Johnston. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Brown Funeral Home of Jefferson assisted the family.
